Curriculum

Learning through play.
Our sessions are based around free play, giving your child the space to express themselves and learn through their choice of activity.  We provide interesting and stimulating activities appropriate for their age and stage of development as well as focused activities.

Our outside area has lots of space and a variety of equipment available to be used throughout the day.

We have an all inclusive policy.  We celebrate a wide range of festivals including Christmas, Diwali, Chinese New Year etc. Children are included and welcome whatever their ability or individual need may be and we can accommodate one to one support if required.

We encourage involvement in the local community and arrange trips to the local shops, the library and parks.  In addition, we have close links to both schools in Ravenshead and arrange familiarisation trips when your child is due to start nursery or school.  Our aim is to facilitate a smooth transition between Preschool Playgroup and School.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
For children between the ages of 2 and 5 years, a curriculum is set out by the Department of Education which divides your child's learning and development into six key areas:

Personal, social and emotional development:
Encouraging your child to be confident and happy and secure in new environments, ready for the transition to school.

Communication, language and literacy:
Encouraging listening and speaking in different situations for different purposes.

Physical development:
Improving co-ordination, control and movement.

Creative development:
Providing children opportunities to use art, music, dance and role play.

Knowledge and understanding of the world:
Opportunities to investigate and explore, relating to the world around us.

Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy:
Children will be given opportunities to count, sort and build to gain an awareness of numeracy.

We will develop an individual learning programme for your child and their progress in all of these early years goals will be recorded in their folder.  The records are kept regularly and when your child leaves us you will be given your childs folder to pass onto their Primary School.  Their folder is also available for you to look at at anytime; please ask a member of the team.
